Le bout-dehors - The sprit

10 avril 2008 - Le bout-dehors vient d'arriver. C'est une pièce en carbone de près de 2 m de long qui a une forme de bicône. Le cône le plus long fait près de 130 cm et dépassera l'étrave. Le cône le plus court fait 70 cm et sera inséré dans la coque.
10 April 2008 - The sprit has just been delivered. It is piece of carbon almost 2m long in the form of two joined-up cones. The longest cone, almost 130cm long, will extend ahead of the bow. The shortest one, 70cm long, will be inserted in the hull.


11 avril 2008 - Le bout-dehors se glissera dans un manchon de forme cônique identique placé sous le pont, et dont le fond sera muni d'une grosse vis. En navigation, le bout-dehors restera à poste, mais il pourra facilement (enfin, je l'espère!) être démonté au port.
11 April 2008 - The sprit will glide into a sockett of similar conic form below deck, with a big screw at the end. The sprit will permanently stay in place while sailing. In port however, it should be easy to unscrew if necessary.


11 avril 2008 - Le bout-dehors ne nécessitera pas de sous-barbe, parce que je trouve cela gênant. C'est une option qui serait difficilement réalisable avec un autre matériau que le carbone.
11 April 2008 - The sprit will not require a bobstay, because I find that troublesome. That is an option which could not be achieved easily with a material other than carbon.
